Join Technomics at the 2021 ICEAA online Workshop this May 17-20, 2021!  Two groups of Technomicians are presenting the thought-provoking topics of Comprehending Chaos and Portfolio Natural Selection.

Comprehending Chaos: Leveraging Text to Improve Analysis

Authored by Cadence Doyle and Omar Akbik, this paper and presentation illustrates the basics of natural language processing (NLP), and describes the mechanics of how to use machine learning (ML) algorithms to provide insight into text data. We explain how private industries have combined NLP and ML, and demonstrate how we have combined the two processes in the realm of cost analysis. In our projects, we've implemented clustering and classification on equipment data. Previously, we would have needed subject matter expert (SME) input to classify each piece of equipment, or to find analogous systems to the one we're looking at to get a decent cost estimate. Leveraging requirements documents and other equipment information found in various texts provided us with insights that the human eye would likely miss.

The Missing Link: An Evolution of Portfolio Natural Selection

Authored by Catherine Dodsworth, Keelin Arseneault, Brian Flynn, Remmie Arnold and Stella O’Sickey, this paper emphasizes the importance of correcting often overlooked statistical biases in cost estimation and how to naturally select portfolio trade space.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” –Charles Darwin

This research presents a conceptual framework and methodology for solving the missing link between learning curve estimates, prediction intervals, and S-curves and generating analytically-based affordable cost constraints to naturally select trade space in a portfolio.  This holistic approach expands the evolution of the S-curve.

It’s not too late to register and join the 2021 online ICEAA Workshop to learn more about these and other captivating topics. We can’t wait to see you there!
